How are Credit and Level measured?

Credit is a currency for learning which can be used to compare learning and qualifications. You can build the credit you achieve towards a qualification or other learning aim.

Credit tells you how much learning you have gained within a certain amount of time, for example, from taking part in school courses, college courses or training courses.

Credits can be added together to make up whole qualifications. Gaining credit is dependent upon you completing certain assignments covering learning outcomes, such as practical work, essays, presentations, reports, portfolios, project work, exams or other.

Credits start from whatever level you are at and go all the way up to the top university level – Level 8 (Doctorate).

What is a Learning Outcome?

Learning Outcomes are the parts of the unit that outline what you will be able to do. They are always preceded by the words “the learner will” and will be followed by verbs such as: understand, know or be able to.

What are Assessment Criteria?

Assessment Criteria are the elements of a unit that demonstrate that you have achieved a piece of learning.
They are always preceded by “the learner can”.
The verb that follows this phrase gives an indication of your level of learning.
To achieve credit for your learning, you will be asked to complete assessment activities to show clearly what you have learnt.
There are lots of different types of assessment e.g. questions and answers, projects, role play, practical demonstrations etc.

What does an Awarding Organisation do?

At the simplest level, an awarding organisation has three key functions:
-To develop qualifications that fulfil a known industry need that means developing the structure, content (or syllabus) and assessment based on recognised standards approved by employers and Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) and Standard Setting Bodies (SSBs).
-To provide external quality assurance and assessment of qualifications to its approved Centers by supporting qualification delivery, ensuring consistency and encouraging best practice. The awarding organisation ensures learners achieve the standard required by industry.
-To award certificates to each learner who successfully achieves a qualification only when the awarding organisation has ensured that the learner has met the criteria will they issue an official, recognised certificate.
Additionally, some awarding organisations offer a range of supporting services, tailored to the needs of their customers and the industries they serve.

What is  External
Verification?

External verification is an integral part of the quality assurance arrangements.
External verifiers (EVs) are the key mechanism in the establishment and monitoring of recognised center status facilitating compliance with statutory regulation, the quality standards and the expectations of our qualification partners. EVs are required to visit centers and/or conduct desk-based reviews to monitor and report recognised center compliance with requirements and qualification specification criteria (developed in accordance with quality standards and appropriate legislation).

What does course accreditation

Course accreditation is basically a system that checks that a course meets a set of standardised (by the Industry) criteria. With an accredited course you know that there is a system of checks being made by the moderators on the course provider to ensure that standards, procedures and materials are appropriate, fit for their purpose, up to date and regularly updated, and that there are systems in place to monitor and give feedback on student progress. What this means to business: Qualifications training helps staff to improve productivity and to be more competitive.
Training your workforce can also be more cost effective than hiring skilled staff, leading to lower overall training and recruitment costs. Employees tend to be eager, motivated and loyal to the company that has invested in them.
